"Communication within a friendship is important for human development throughout life. Beginning in childhood, friendships shape and reflect developments in social cognition, perspective-taking abilities, moral comportment, and cooperation as equals. During adolescence and younger adulthood, friendships cultivate ethical sensibilities, and understandings and practices of intimacy, identity, and sociability. Acrosslifef,e people describe three benefits of close friendship: somebody to talk to; to depend on and rely on for instrumental help, social support, and caring, and to have fun and enjoy doing things with. Communication with friends relieves loneliness and contributes to physical and psychological well-being."

About Lesson

From the precipitous peaks of the Karakoram range to the fertile Indus River plain, Pakistan is home to a diversity of stunning landscapes. Two new parks—Himalaya National Park and Nanga Parbat National Park—were designated in 2020, covering more than 2,200 square miles of biodiverse, high-altitude terrain in the northern territory of Gilgit-Baltistan.

Although its spectacular topography and fascinating history date back thousands of years, Pakistan is a relatively young nation, formed in 1947 when Partition split the Indian subcontinent into two separate countries.

Travelers can explore cultural monuments (lengths of the ancient Silk Road, the ruins of Mohenjo-Daro) and dazzling national parks, alpine lakes, and scenic drives. Here are the best ways to get into that lesser-known, wilder side of Pakistan.

My Blessed Beautiful Land

In the North spellbinding scenes that astound
The mighty Karakoram that’s snow-crowned
With Hindukush beauty all around
Where warm and brave people are found
Oh my Lord, keep them all safe and sound.
The sands of the Kharan desert browned
Lofty mountains with precious stones found
And mines full of minerals underground
My land, where fearless people abound
Oh my Lord, keep them all safe and sound.
Fertile plains, fields of grain all around
Where meet five mighty rivers renowned
A land of tales and legends profound
Where simple people work year-round
Oh my Lord, keep them all safe and sound.
The Indus delta spread all around
Far from the Mohen-jo-Daro mound
Where echoes of ancient times resound
And sincere and resourceful people abound
Oh my Lord, keep them all safe and sound.
